Invisible Grills vs Balcony Safety Nets: Which Is Right for Your Home?
Both make a balcony safe for children and pets. They do it differently, cost differently and suit different homes. Here is a straight comparison from the people who install both every week.

The short answer
Choose invisible grills if the view matters most and you want a long-term, almost invisible barrier. Choose balcony safety nets if budget matters, the opening is large, or you also want to keep pigeons out. Plenty of families use both — grills on the living-room balcony, a net on the utility side.
Looks and view
Invisible grills are thin stainless cables at a 2-inch gap; from inside the room they all but disappear. A safety net is a visible mesh — light and airy, especially in transparent or white, but you will see it.
Safety for children and pets
Both are safe when fitted properly. Nets close the entire opening, which makes them excellent for cats that walk along railings. Grills have no horizontal footholds to climb. The real risk with either is poor fixing — anchors in plaster, or gaps at corners.
Pigeons
This is the biggest practical difference. Pigeons fly straight through a 2-inch grill. A net with the right mesh keeps them out. If you live near a lake — Bellandur, Hebbal — or have a pigeon problem already, a net (or a grill plus a transparent pigeon net) is the answer.
Cost and lifespan
- Safety nets: lower cost per square foot; last several years depending on sun exposure.
- Invisible grills: higher cost per square foot; stainless steel lasts many years with almost no maintenance.
